- CLOMR – Conditional Letter of Map Revision
- CTP – Cooperating Technical Partner
- DFIRM – Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map
- Discovery – the process of data mining, collection, and analysis with the goal of initiating a flood risk or mitigation project and risk discussions within a watershed
- FEMA – Federal Emergency Management Agency
- FIRM – Flood Insurance Rate Map
- Flood Hazard – a naturally occurring or man-made flooding condition what could cause harm
- Flood Risk – the likelihood or chance that someone or something is harmed when a flood hazard event occurs
- GIS – Geographic Information System
- Hazard Mitigation – “…any action taken to reduce or eliminate long term risk to people and property from natural hazards.” (FEMA)
- HAZUS – HAZards United States. A risk assessment methodology that uses GIS technology for estimating potential losses (physical, economic, and social impacts) from natural disasters (earthquake, flood, and hurricane).
- HUC – Hydrologic Unit Code. Used during process of dividing the United States into hydrologic units of varying scale depending on physical area. (USGS)
